A composite ingredient is processed and contains multiple ingredients. This could be something like a chocolate chip or a concentrate. A single ingredient would be something like an apple or coffee bean. Single ingredients can be processed, such as a roasted coffee bean, but they cannot be broken down into simpler ingredients.
